FRONT OF CHECK.jpg

On October 19, 2015, Shepherd Mantia took his own life. He was 17 years old. Shepherd was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Despite his family's efforts, Shepherd could not be reached in time. One year later, his family received a check for $139.00 from the IRS. It was a posthumous tax refund for Shepherd. His family donated this check to the Hi How Are You Foundation because they believe in the Foundation's mission to spread awareness and remove the stigma around mental health issues.

Our hope is that, from this day forward, those who deal with mental health issues won't feel shame or hopelessness. Your donation to the Hi How Are You Foundation goes towards the creation of media, projects and events that advance this very important conversation as well as funding research to improve diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues.

In memory of Shepherd Mantia, we started the "Match Shep 139" fundraising campaign, #matchshep139. We are seeking 1,000 people to donate $139 and to enlist one other friend, family member, or co-worker to do the same.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year olds globally.

Please hear my cry for help and save me from myself.”

Why Mental Health?

Mental health issues affect one in four people globally

It could be you, your child, your spouse, sibling, parent, friend or co-worker.  Mental health issues affect EVERYONE in some way.  So, why is it so difficult to talk about?  If everyone is affected, why does the stigma remain?  At the Hi How Are You Foundation, we asked that very question and decided we all need to do better.  We believe it is not an organizational mission, but a worldwide community mission to make a difference.

If we can change minds, we can change the world.
